On Tuesday, Iraq's Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani began a visit to Turkiye.
According to a statement published by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), the media office of the Iraqi prime minister stated, "Prime Minister Muhammad Shia' al-Sudani began an official visit to the Turkish Republic, at the head of a high government delegation."
The spokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources, Khaled Shamal, confirmed that the delegation accompanying the Sudanese includes the Minister of Water Resources, to discuss a number of files there.
The water crisis between Iraq and Turkey comes at the top of the priorities of Al-Sudani and his accompanying delegation, during their discussions.
The water file poses a major challenge to Iraq, which has a population of 42 million, and holds its neighbors Turkiye and Iran responsible for the low water level due to the construction of dams on the Tigris and Euphrates rivers.
