According to Iranian dissidents and social activists, recent shifts in political, ethnic, and class alignments inside Iran indicate that the country is moving toward a major social revolution. They describe Iran as “standing on the brink of a painful and possibly bloody birth,” amid deepening economic hardship, political repression and growing public anger at the ruling system.
Opposition voices say they are fully prepared for what they call a “historic confrontation” with the ruling theocracy, insisting that their goal is to end both the mullahs’ rule and any prospect of a return to monarchical leadership. In this context, new protest slogans have reportedly emerged in Azerbaijani-majority areas, where demonstrators chant: “Azerbaijan has honor, Pahlavi has no honor,” reflecting broad rejection of both clerical and monarchical authoritarianism.
