As the countdown to the FIFA World Cup 2026 continues, Iran are stepping up its preparations in a bid to deliver a strong performance on the global stage.

However, uncertainty still surrounds the team’s participation due to ongoing political tensions with the United States.

Iran has been drawn into Group G alongside Egypt, New Zealand, and Belgium in what is considered one of the most competitive groups in the tournament.

In preparation, the Iranian Football Federation confirmed that the team will face North Macedonia in a friendly match during a training camp in Turkey.

The camp forms part of the second phase of Iran’s buildup to the World Cup.

According to reports from Tehran Times, the friendly fixture is part of a carefully planned technical program aimed at exposing the squad to opponents with similar tactical discipline and physical strength.

This approach is seen as essential given the level of competition expected in their group.

North Macedonia has built a reputation as a resilient side capable of upsetting top teams, most notably with their victory over Italy in the qualification playoffs for the 2022 World Cup.

The team features key players such as Eljif Elmas and experienced goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski, adding further quality to the upcoming encounter.

For Iran, the match represents a crucial test ahead of their official fixtures, particularly against Belgium.

Head coach Amir Ghalenoei is focused on strengthening defensive organization and improving attacking transitions as he looks to build a team capable of competing at the highest level.
