Iran’s parliament has approved the creation of a National Artificial Intelligence Organization, an independent body operating under the supervision of the country’s president, aimed at regulating and advancing the nation’s AI ecosystem.
During a parliamentary session, lawmakers reviewed the report of the Industries and Mines Committee on the National AI Plan and approved a full revision of Article 3 of the plan. The updated article establishes the National AI Organization as an autonomous entity tasked with overseeing AI development and leveraging available technological resources.
The organization will report directly to the president, with its head appointed through a presidential decree.
This move marks a significant step in institutionalizing AI governance in Iran, integrating artificial intelligence into national policy planning, and promoting technological innovation and a knowledge-based economy.
