IOM held a fruitful workshop on immigration data in coordination with the Regional Data Hub (RDH) for the Middle East and North Africa region and the Global Migration Data Analysis Centre (GMDAC).

The two-day workshop took place on Tuesday and Wednesday and brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS), the Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC), research centers, and think tanks.

In his address at the opening of the event, the IOM’s Chief of Mission to Egypt, Laurent de Boeck, highlighted the engagement of the Egyptian government as a champion country of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM).

For many years now, the IOM has been working hand in hand with CAPMAS to develop and share its good practices on migration data.

The workshop aims at achieving the UN’s SDGs, specifically Goal 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, Goal 10: Reduced Inequalities, Goal 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, and Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

The event was attended by the Migration Research Unit of the University of Cairo (MRU), UN agencies, as well as the EU, represented by Ibrahim Laafia, the EU delegation to Egypt’s head of cooperation.
