On Thursday, gunmen left threatened Lionel Messi and opened fire on a supermarket owned by the family of his wife, Antonella Roccuzzo, in his hometown of Rosario, police said.
Police revealed that no injuries were reported, adding that the motives of the attacker were not identified.
Police said two men on a motorcycle fired a dozen shots into the supermarket, leaving a message on a piece of cardboard.
It read: “Messi, we’re waiting for you. [Rosario mayor Pablo] Javkin is also a drug trafficker, so he won’t take care of you.”
Until now, no response was delivered by Messi who is based in Paris now.
Rosario's Prosecutor Federico Rébola said that authorities were checking security camera records, pointing out that this was the first time that Messi wife's family received such a threat.
