Authorities in Guinea have allowed the gradual resumption of gasoline distribution, after a five-day ban following an explosion in the main fuel depot in the capital, Conakry.
The government said in an emailed statement that the sale of gasoline across the country is limited to 25 liters for cars and 5 liters for motorcycles.
According to the statement, the sale of bottled fuel is prohibited. The distribution of diesel, which has already been approved by the authorities, is subject to the same conditions.
The explosion at the fuel depot on December 17 killed 23 people, injured 285 others, and brought businesses across the country to a standstill due to the fuel shortage that followed.
Guinea is among the world's largest producers of bauxite, a raw material used to produce aluminum. The West African country also has the world's largest untapped deposit of iron ore.
