One of the first places to celebrate the New Year is the German University in Cairo (GUC). In an annual tradition, the university holds a Christmas party in mid-December, whereby all the staff at the university, whether members of the teaching staff or employees, celebrate as one family with the end of a year and the beginning of a new one.
The reason for the early celebration is to provide an opportunity for German professors at the university to enjoy a Christmas vacation with their families in Germany.
At the party, prizes are distributed while the University's singing team “Music Ensemble” performs Christmas songs.
Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, delivered a speech to welcome the attendees and congratulate them on the new year. He talked about the university's achievements during the last year and the new goals that must be achieved in the new year. He also wished a happy new year for all.
