The Faculty of Applied Arts at Helwan University is organizing a scientific symposium entitled “Pioneering Contemporary Egyptian Jewelry - Hassan Sayed,” at 10 a.m. next Tuesday, under the supervision of the Department of Metal Jewelry, in the cinema hall.
The symposium talks about the role of the late Dr. Hassan Sayed (1935-1993), a professor of jewelry at the College of Applied Arts, and one of the pioneers of the art of jewelry in Egypt and the Middle East.
Sayed won the State Encouragement Award for Arts and the Medal of Excellence of the first class in 1988, which was granted for the first time to specialize in jewelry design.
He held several exhibitions in jewelry and ornaments, including the 1980 exhibition “Dialogue with Nature and Jewelry,” followed by other exhibitions in the years 1981 and 1985, entitled “Jewelry Spring” and “A Vision of Contemporary Ornaments.”
Throughout his history, Sayed presented works in the art of jewelry in its various colors, and the economics of jewelry design was among his interests, as he was the owner of the society that jewelry is nothing but a store of value, that beauty in itself is valuable.
Sayed died in 1993 and was buried in Makkah Al-Mukarramah during his assignment at Umm Al-Qura University, leaving a humanitarian work and artistic heritage in the field of jewelry design.
