SEE-August 8: The German government is a partner in establishing Assiut barrage with a financial contribution of 311 million euros out of the total cost of 474 million euros.
The new Assuit barrage is soon to be opened; the project plays an important role in developing upper Egypt.
German ambassador to Egypt Julius Georg Luy hailed the success of the new project.
. "Germany is proud of being an important partner of Egypt's in such successful project; it is the biggest German development project," Luy added.
The German ambassador stated, " The project of Assiut barrage provides 690,000 hectares of water; it will benefit 5 million Egyptians who work in agriculture."
Luy added that Assuit barrage is the second collaboration between the two countries after Nag Hammadi barrage project established in 2008.
The new barrage will provide the water needed for irrigation and generate 130,000 families with electricity.
