The first orbital rocket launch from Europe failed after it exploded just seconds after takeoff during a test flight on Sunday.

This is part of an ambitious project by a German startup company aiming to launch satellites into orbit from Europe in the future.

The German news website Deutsche Welle reported that the rocket was launched from Andøya Spaceport in Norway, the first such attempt at an orbital launch from the European continent, but it crashed into the sea just 30 seconds after leaving the launch pad.

The company confirmed that the primary goal of the launch was to gather as much data as possible, and that the rocket plunged into the sea in a controlled manner after a decision was made to end its flight 30 seconds after liftoff.
