Former Germany defender Andres Brehme passed away at the age of 63.
Brehme's late penalty in the final of the 1990 FIFA World Cup secured the win for Germany against Argentina to capture the Golden Cup.
He had 86 caps and eight goals with the German national team, in addition, he won league titles with Kaiserslautern, Bayern Munich, and Inter Milan.
Brehme's partner Susanne Schaefer told DPA that he "died suddenly" from cardiac arrest.
Bayern Munich responded to the news, saying: "FC Bayern is deeply shocked by the sudden death of Andreas Brehme."
"We will always keep Andreas Brehme in our hearts - as a world champion and even more so as a very special person.
"He will always be part of the FC Bayern family. Rest in peace, dear Andi."
