The German Federal Police, responsible for airport security, revealed that the computer systems of the police are experiencing technical issues at airports across the country, the German newspaper "BILD" reported.
According to the newspaper, the systems used by the police to monitor arrivals to the country were affected.
It quoted a federal police officer as saying: "Our colleagues have to carry out most of the checks manually." According to the radio "WDR", passengers at "Düsseldorf" airport had to wait for about two hours, while entry from countries outside the Schengen area is currently not possible amid these interruptions.
While the public news station WDR reported that the problem affected passengers arriving in Germany from non-Schengen countries, where passengers were forced to remain on board the plane in some cases.
A spokesman for Düsseldorf" airport confirmed that it is facing similar problems.
"We can confirm that since around 2pm today, there have been disruptions to border control for flights to and from the non-Schengen area," he said, adding that passengers were being provided with water.
