Gayer-Anderson Museum Celebrates Its 77th Anniversary

Today, Sunday, Gayer-Anderson Museum is celebrating its 77th opening anniversary.

Moamen Othman, the Director of Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, said that tomorrow the museum will organize an exhibition of 100 pieces that were produced through the latest series of the museum’s workshops.

He added that those workshops trained 100 working and graduate ladies for helping them to make different types of handcrafts such as glass work, printing,

On her side, Mervet Ezzat, the supervisor of the museum, said that it consists of two houses that date back to the 16th, and the 17th centuries.

They were two separated homes before the establishment of the bridge that connected them at the beginning of the 20th century.

The museum consists of 29 halls such as the Indian, the Damascus Hall, and the Chinese. Each one exhibits pieces of furniture that resemble the style and its identity of it, in addition, they are halls that reflect the real structure of the house such as the winter room, women’s room (Haremlak), and celebrations room, alongside the newly added halls such as the Cretan Doors, and the Wonders of the Cretan.
