The Saudi Ittihad named the Argentinian Marcelo Gallardo the new coach of the team, replacing Nunu Santo.
Santo was sacked after losing 2-0 to the Iraqi Air Force at the Asian Football Confederation Champions League.
Gallardo, who led River Plate to the Copa Libertadores in 2015 and in 2018, was offered a two-season and half contract by the Saudi side.
The club said: "The Board of Directors of Al Ittihad announces the signing of a new coaching staff, led by the Argentinian Marcelo Gallardo, to coach the football first team with a contract extending for a year and a half."
Gallardo’s first game with the Jeddah side will be on Friday against Al Ittifaq in the Saudi Pro League.
