Media reports said that the process of counting the votes of the first round of the presidential elections in France showed that French president Emmanuel Macron got 28.1% of votes, while the far-right challenger Marine Le Pen came in the second place with 23.3% of votes. Meanwhile, the leader of the French Left movement, Jean-Luc Melenchon, received 20.1% of votes.
These results are leading to a second round between Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen, who will face on April 24, 2022 in a presidential run-off.
French media reported that the turnout in the first round of the presidential elections was 65%.
The "France Info" website said that the participation rate decreased by 4.4 points compared to the same period in 2017, 69.42%, while it was 70.59% in 2012.
It pointed out that the lowest participation rate in the first round of the presidential elections was in 2022 with 58.45%.
