France has called on Brussels to mediate between it and its neighbor, Italy, to resolve their dispute over the migrant crisis. It threatened to take countermeasures against Rome.

French government spokesman Olivier Veran indicated that Italy is not fulfilling its obligations towards France, which constitutes a breach of the European solidarity mechanisms, and accordingly, Paris will not fulfill its part of the agreement and will refrain from allowing 3,000 migrants across the Italian border to enter its lands.

Yesterday, the French-Italian border witnessed long queues of cars in light of Paris' decision to tighten its border crossing procedures, in response to Rome's refusal to allow the rescue ship "Ocean Viking" to enter the port of Sicily.

The ship stood for 3 weeks off the port of Sicily, waiting for permission to dock from the Italian authorities, who refused to receive it, prompting France to allow it to dock in the port of Toulon as an exceptional case.

According to Rome, it did not allow the ship to dock in its ports due to non-compliance by other EU countries with the terms of the Migrant Distribution Agreement.
