The military junta in Niger, which came to power in a coup at the end of last July, announced that the withdrawal of French soldiers from Niger would begin on Tuesday.

The council said in a statement, “Operations to leave the first convoy of the French troops under the guard of our defense and security forces will begin on Tuesday, October 10.”

The council's statement added that "following meetings" and "communication between our authorities and the French side, a timetable for the withdrawal of its forces was set by joint agreement."

Shortly after taking control of power, the coup leaders made a decision calling for the withdrawal of about 1,400 French soldiers from the country located in the Sahel region.

Also, French President Emmanuel Macron had announced that the French forces would leave the country at the end of September.
