Paris Police Chief Laurent Nunez said on Monday that nine people were arrested after attacking a police station in the suburb of La Courneuve, late on Sunday evening, following clashes between youths and police forces.

The clashes took place against the backdrop of the death of a young man, last week, who refused to stop his motorcycle after the police ordered him to do so.

Security issues are of utmost importance to the French authorities, especially as Paris prepares for the start of the Olympic Games on July 26.

Some Olympic Games sites in the French capital were vandalized in riots that occurred in the summer of 2023 and broke out after a young man of African descent was shot by police
