Andy Carroll, who previously played for Liverpool and earned nine caps with the England national team, is facing serious legal proceedings in England that could result in a prison sentence of up to five years.
The 36-year-old striker, who also represented Newcastle United, West Ham United and Bordeaux during his career, was arrested in April upon arriving at Stansted Airport in London. The arrest followed allegations that he breached a restraining order that had been issued only days earlier.
According to a statement released by Essex Police, Carroll was formally charged with violating a court-issued protective order. Authorities said the charge relates to an incident that reportedly occurred in March. He was arrested on April 27 and is scheduled to appear before Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on December 30.
Police did not disclose detailed information about the incident itself but confirmed that the case involves a breach of a harassment protection order. Under English law, violations of such orders can carry severe penalties depending on the circumstances, with a maximum possible sentence of five years in prison if the offense is deemed serious.
