FM Sameh Shoukry Follows up on EU Intentions to Increase Economic Support for Egypt

On Friday, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry followed up on the results of his visit to Brussels and the European agreement for increasing economic support of Egypt with European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi.

Received a phone call from Várhelyi, Shoukry's conversation with the EU official came in the framework of improving the bilateral ties between Egypt and the EU to a strategic partnership, according to the Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid. 

Abu Zeid highlighted that the EU official updated Shoukry with the latest developments of the EU's decision to increase the funds of the EU neighboring countries, including Egypt as part of the mid-term review of the EU budget (from 2021 - 2027), including the decision of increasing the financial, and economic support for Egypt.

He added that both officials discussed deepening the bilateral cooperation between both parties in several domains in the context of the strategic partnership between Egypt and the EU.

Moreover, the discussions tackled the collapsing humanitarian situation in Gaza, the need to increase the humanitarian aid to Gaza, and ending all hinders that delay the delivery of aid to Gaza, in addition to asserting the need of the continuation of supporting Gaza people with aid sustainably, and steadily.
