FM, Iranian counterpart discuss situation in region

Dr. Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, made a phone call with Abbas Araghchi, Iranian Foreign Minister.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs congratulated his Iranian counterpart on assuming the duties of his new position after gaining confidence from the Iranian Parliament, wishing him success in his upcoming duties.

The two ministers discussed the tense regional situation in light of the ongoing war in Gaza and the repeated Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law. 

Dr. Abdel-Aty expressed Egypt’s aspiration to reach a truce agreement according to which a ceasefire would be achieved and a hostage and prisoner exchange deal would be completed, hoping that the mediation efforts would be crowned with success to reduce the tensions taking place in the region.

At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue consultations to follow up on the course of bilateral relations between the two countries during the coming period and developments in the regional situation.
