Badr Abdelatty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, lauded the success of the "Cairo Ministerial Conference to Strengthen the Humanitarian Response to Gaza", emphasizing the international recognition of Egypt’s pivotal role in providing aid and support to the Palestinian people.
In remarks during and on the sidelines of the conference, Abdel-Aty underscored Egypt's leadership in coordinating humanitarian efforts. He noted that Egypt has developed a clear, phased plan to expedite the reconstruction process in Gaza.
“There was unanimous agreement among participating countries and organizations on Egypt’s vision, particularly regarding the immediate cessation of hostilities and ensuring the full delivery of humanitarian aid,” he said.
Highlighting the dire humanitarian situation, Abdelatty pointed out that, prior to October 7, approximately 700 aid trucks entered Gaza daily. Currently, that number has plummeted to just 40 to 60 trucks per day, contributing to widespread famine in the region.
The minister revealed that 70% of the aid delivered to Gaza since October 7 has come from the Egyptian people and government, drawing widespread praise for President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Egypt’s humanitarian leadership.
Abdelatty highlighted the significant turnout at the conference, which included 102 delegations. Participation was expanded in response to requests from countries, organizations, and international bodies eager to contribute to the humanitarian response.
The conference saw notable representation from Latin American countries, including Brazil, Colombia, and Chile, which have taken strong stances in support of the Palestinian cause. Additionally, high-level delegations from key international organizations such as UNRWA, OCHA, UN Women, FAO, the World Food Programme, and the UN Development Programme attended, reflecting the conference's global importance.
The minister concluded by stressing the unity of purpose among participants and the shared commitment to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. “This conference is a testament to the international community’s resolve to stand with the Palestinian people during this critical time,” he said.
