Badr Abdel Aty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received a phone call Friday, from Abdullah Bou Habib, the Lebanese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, where the two sides discussed the latest developments related to the situation in Lebanon and efforts to contain the deteriorating situation in the region.
During the call, Minister Abdel Aty reviewed the Egyptian efforts to quickly reach an immediate ceasefire and approve the truce, stressing the need to work to reduce the escalation of tension at this delicate stage to prevent the region's luring into a wide war that will lead to very dangerous repercussions on regional and international peace and security, and will cast a shadow on the stability of the region.
Abdel Aty again condemned the Israeli army's deliberate targeting of UNIFIL sites and equipment in southern Lebanon.
The Foreign Minister also stressed Egypt's position in support of the empowerment of Lebanese national institutions, led by the Lebanese army, to achieve stability in Lebanon, in parallel with the need to implement Security Council resolution 1701 with all its elements.
He stressed Egypt's keenness to continue providing all forms of support to brotherly Lebanon in light of the current critical situation, the latest of which was the arrival of a new shipment of Egyptian relief aid to Beirut on October 16, 2024, which included 22 tons of food and subsistence supplies necessary to provide livelihoods and alleviate the needs of displaced people, bringing the total relief aid sent by Egypt to support the government and the brotherly Lebanese people so far to 44 tons of aid.
