The Egyptian Ministry of Finance in cooperation with the United Nations International Children's Fund (UNICEF) launched a series of "Budget Transparency" reports to provide a simplified view of the state's general budget, including financial allocations for childcare, which contributes to facilitating citizens' absorption of public spending.
Ahmed Kajouk, Deputy Minister of Finance for Macro Fiscal Policies and Institutional Reform stressed in a statement on Wednesday the keenness to develop efforts made for youth and children in order to respond to their aspirations and hopes, enhancing interaction with them, and providing policies appropriate to their needs.
Kajouk added the ministry will provide more transparent information to citizens in reports issued in the future.
He pointed out that the cooperation between the ministry and UNICEF aims at enhancing transparency and citizen participation in the budget process, as the series includes four brief reports that clarify the main points of financial allocations that benefit children.
Also, the current fiscal year budget 2020/21 included strengthening programs directed to support and care for the younger generations in terms of health, education and social development and scientific research.
He added that the series also includes the financial measures that the government has taken to address the repercussions of the coronavirus, with EGP 100 billion allocated to support the comprehensive plan to tackle the novel virus, and support all economic sectors as well as citizens most affected by the crises.

On his part, Bruno Maes, UNICEF Representative in Egypt said that investing in children brings great benefits to families and societies, including contribution to improving public health, increasing productivity, raising the level of income and economic growth, which helps in the cohesion of societies.
The importance of UNICEF support to the Egyptian government is clear, in decisions to allocate money effectively to meet the needs of children.
It is worth noting that UNICEF's work in Egypt focuses on promoting equitable, multidimensional development for children, which contributes to establishing the pillars of integrated social protection, national policies and public spending.
