Nabil Bukhalid, who was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame in 2017 and was hailed as the "father of the Internet" in Lebanon, passed away on January 3, 2023, at the age of 65.
Bukhalid assisted Lebanon in laying the groundwork for the Internet in the late 1980s, a time of social and political unrest in the nation.
Via greater Internet access, he helped numerous towns gain power over his career. He committed his career to improving connectivity in the area.
Nabil studied at the American University of Beirut (AUB), where he obtained both an EMBA and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
He was a co-founder and CEO of the Lebanese Internet Center in addition to leading the computing and networking team at AUB.Nabil founded the Lebanese Domain Registry (LBDR) and was chosen as the administrator and registrar for the.LB ccTLD in 1993 as the creator of the Lebanese Academic and Research Network (LARN).
Nabil Bukhalid was also a co-founder of the Internet Society Lebanon Chapter, where he held the position of president for several years, as well as the Lebanese Broadband Manifesto Support Group (LBSG) and BeirutIX, the country's first Internet exchange point.
