The European Union has expressed its support for the appointment of María Ángela Holguín Cuellar, the ex-Foreign Minister of Colombia, as the new Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary General for Cyprus.

This pivotal role is expected to rejuvenate efforts towards finding mutual understanding, aiming to resume formal discussions for a sustainable resolution in Cyprus.

These talks have been stalled since the 2017 negotiations in Crans Montana.

The EU reaffirms its dedication to achieving a comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem, aligning with the United Nations framework, relevant UN Security Council resolutions, and the foundational principles and laws of the EU.

Furthermore, the EU is prepared to actively contribute to each phase of the UN-led process, utilizing all available resources.

In light of the current global political situation, ensuring security and stability in the Eastern Mediterranean is deemed increasingly vital.

This region holds shared interests and potential for collaborative efforts and collective strategies.
