Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union, described the widespread destruction and loss of human life in Gaza due to the Israeli conflict as a tragedy beyond all limits.
He noted that the significant increase in civilian casualties is intolerable and emphasized the urgent need for a ceasefire and efforts to achieve sustainable peace.
During a joint press conference with Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi and European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi, Borrell condemned the repeated attacks on Jordanian relief convoys. He mentioned that the EU has adopted new sanctions against settlers targeting these aid convoys.
Borrell highlighted the important role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and expressed the EU's continued commitment to working with donors to provide financial assistance to the organization. He also condemned all terrorist attacks targeting UN agencies.
Regarding EU-Jordan relations, Borrell affirmed that Jordan is a key partner and a pillar of regional stability, emphasizing the importance of working towards a comprehensive bilateral partnership.
