The European Union condemned the killing of the Iranian nuclear scientist, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh in an armed attack on his car near the capital, Tehran, yesterday.

Today, a press release said on the website of the European Commission for Foreign Affairs that "Yesterday, a prominent Iranian government official and many civilians were killed in a series of violent attacks in the Iranian city of Absard."

The statement added: "This is a criminal act that goes against the principles of respecting human rights."

It continued, "In light of these chaotic times, it is more important than ever that all parties remain calm and practice maximum restraint, to avoid escalating the situation that cannot be in anyone's interest."

On Friday afternoon, near the capital, Tehran, an armed group attacked a car carrying Fakhrizadeh, who was the head of the Research and Innovation Organization at the Ministry of Defense.

During the clash between his security team and the terrorists, Fakhrizadeh was seriously injured and taken to the hospital, but the efforts of the medical team did not succeed in saving his life.
