Today, Sunday, the Ethiopian Embassy in Cairo announced that after bilateral consultations between Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi on July 13, tripartite negotiations for the annual filling and operation of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Cairo have begun.
Seleshi Bekele, the head of the Ethiopian negotiating team said that the trilateral negotiations will enhance cooperation among the three countries.
The head of the Ethiopian negotiating team reiterated Ethiopia's right to benefit from the waters of the Nile River to meet current and future generations needs.
Bekele also pointed out to the enormous benefits that the three countries will reap from the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, stressing that Ethiopia will continue to adhere to its firm position regarding the principle of equitable and reasonable utilization and will continue to work for a friendly outcome of the negotiations.
