Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment said that the increasing demand of the people to open rice straw collection sites has resulted in the collection of nearly 1,377,000 tons of rice straw, representing 86.4% of the amount of rice straw generated from the cultivated area.
This came during Fouad's follow-up on the latest developments in the ministry's efforts, since the start of the season of acute air pollution known in the media as the "black cloud".
In the context of limiting the open burning of agricultural and municipal waste, 2,143 burning points were monitored through satellites in the regions of Greater Cairo, the Delta and Central Upper Egypt, and the 20 inspection axes were immediately directed to those sites and the Civil Protection Department was notified to immediately deal with the fires and take the necessary measures.
In order to raise environmental awareness and create channels of communication with the citizen, the Ministry of Environment implemented 821 seminars and environmental awareness campaigns for citizens to introduce the damages resulting from burning agricultural waste and how to benefit from rice straw and the efforts of the ministry in dealing with agricultural waste, while a number of 141 complaints from citizens about burning agricultural and municipal waste, removing its causes, and issuing records for violators.
