At the 44th Sharjah International Book Fair, veteran Emirati actress Samira Ahmed reflected on her decades-long artistic journey during a session titled “The Emirati Women’s Theatrical Experience.” The discussion, moderated by poet Sheikha Al Jaberi and introduced by writer Salha Ghabesh, explored the pioneering role of women in UAE theater.
Ghabesh noted that the session continues a documentation project by the Cultural Office of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, which produced the book “Pioneers of Emirati Theater” by Dhafer Jaloud.
Ahmed recalled the challenges faced by women entering theater in its early days, emphasizing that perseverance and institutional support were key to success. She praised Sharjah’s leadership and its National Theatre for nurturing talent, highlighting the vision of H.H. Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, whose support she said “laid the foundation for a flourishing Emirati stage.”
