The European Ambassador in Cairo Angelina Eichhorst delivered a powerful speech during a commemoration event marking the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In the presence of the diplomatic corps, the ambassador reflected on the war's impact, Europe's response, and the global repercussions of the ongoing conflict.
Recalling the early days of the invasion, the ambassador emphasized Ukraine's heroic resistance and the European Union’s swift decision to support the Ukrainian armed forces.
She highlighted the historic shift in EU policy, which included financing the supply of lethal military equipment to Ukraine for the first time.
The ambassador also noted the broader consequences of the war, particularly the economic strain caused by rising wheat prices and inflation, which have significantly affected Mediterranean nations, including Egypt.
Moreover, she reaffirmed the EU's commitment to mitigating these impacts through financial aid, supply chain modernization, and humanitarian assistance.
Addressing the issue of disinformation, the ambassador warned against the Kremlin’s efforts to manipulate global narratives and stressed the importance of standing united against misinformation.
She also reiterated that Ukraine and Europe must be central to any discussions regarding the war’s resolution, emphasizing the EU's ongoing diplomatic efforts to achieve a just and lasting peace in line with the UN Charter and international law.
Concluding her speech, the ambassador reaffirmed the European Union’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stating, “We will continue to fight – fight for peace, for saving lives, for a better future, and for the truth.”
