Egypt’s Unemployment Rate Rises to 6.4% in Q3 2025

Egypt’s unemployment rate increased to 6.4% in the third quarter of 2025, up from 6.1% in the previous quarter, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS).

The labor force expanded by 3.3% to 34.7 million, driven by a rise of 939,000 employed individuals and 175,000 newly unemployed. Total unemployment reached 2.229 million people, with joblessness rising among men to 4.0%, while female unemployment declined to 15.0%.

Urban unemployment climbed to 10.1%, compared with 3.6% in rural areas. CAPMAS reported that 83.1% of the unemployed are holders of intermediate, higher intermediate, or university degrees.

Employment rose to 32.5 million, with agriculture remaining the largest employer at 20.5% of the workforce, followed by wholesale and retail trade, manufacturing, construction, and transportation.
