Egypt’s Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi carried out an unannounced visit to the national natural gas network control center operated by Gasco, as part of ongoing field inspections aimed at ensuring stable energy supplies across the country.

The visit took place at the headquarters of the National Gas Control Center, commonly known as “NATA,” where the minister reviewed the real-time operational status of Egypt’s national natural gas transmission network. The inspection focused on confirming the uninterrupted flow of gas supplies to major consumption sectors, particularly electricity generation and industry.

According to a statement issued by Egyptian Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, the surprise visit comes within a broader effort by the ministry to conduct unscheduled field tours of operational facilities and production sites in order to monitor performance and address emerging challenges directly on the ground.

During the inspection, Minister Badawi met with Mohamed Marzouk and the technical team responsible for operating the control center. The minister reviewed current gas pumping rates through the national grid and assessed the overall operational efficiency of the transmission network.

Officials briefed the minister on monitoring systems used to track supply flows and demand levels across Egypt’s extensive gas infrastructure. The control center plays a critical role in managing the distribution of natural gas across the country, ensuring that supplies are balanced between power plants, industrial consumers, and distribution companies serving residential and commercial users.

Badawi praised the technical team for maintaining stable operations and for their continuous oversight of gas supply security, particularly in light of the challenges currently facing the energy sector. He commended the staff’s ability to manage the network efficiently and ensure that gas continues to reach consumers safely and reliably.

The visit also included a review of operational preparedness plans designed to respond to potential fluctuations in supply or demand. Engineers presented several pre-established operational scenarios aimed at maintaining system stability under varying conditions, including potential surges in consumption.

Officials highlighted preparations already underway to accommodate the expected seasonal rise in gas demand as Egypt approaches the summer months, when electricity generation requirements typically increase due to higher cooling needs.

In addition to industrial and power sector demand, the minister was briefed on readiness measures for the natural gas distribution system serving residential and commercial consumers.

Authorities confirmed that preparations for the upcoming Eid al-Fitr have been completed, with contingency measures in place to handle the seasonal spike in household and commercial gas consumption that often accompanies the holiday period.

The ministry stated that continuous monitoring of the national gas network remains a top priority to ensure stable energy supplies and maintain operational reliability across all sectors of the Egyptian economy.
