Egypt's Petroleum Min. Discusses with Malaysia's Petronas Boosting Investments in Energy Sector

Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum discussed with Abang Youssef, Vice President of Petronas, a Malaysian LNG giant, the company’s activities in developing the 10th phase of the West Delta deep fields project in the Mediterranean Sea, as well as examining efforts to reduce emissions and make the most of natural resources.

El-Molla stressed during the meeting that COP27 climate summit paved the way for joint work on reducing emissions efforts, which currently being implemented by the oil and gas sectors and emissions-intensive industries around the world, indicating that industries based on natural gas provide foreign currency to the country.

The minister added that Egypt has surplus capacities in the liquefaction plants in Idku and Damietta and is capable of meeting the demand of the eastern Mediterranean countries for liquefying gas.

"Work is underway with foreign partners to increase production to implement intensive drilling programs during the coming period to meet the needs of the local market and providing a surplus for export.

On his part, the Vice President of Petronas indicated that his country is working seriously to expand renewable energies and green ammonia production and is working to direct most of the natural gas production for export and related industries.

He noted that next year will witness the start of production from the 10th phase of the West Delta deep fields project, pointing out that the company seeks to make more discoveries and increase reserves and production in Egypt.
