Egypt’s GEM Receives 23 Huge Artifacts from Egyptian Museum in Tahrir

On Sunday, the Egyptian Grand Museum (GEM) received 23 huge artifacts, including a limestone wall representing Pyramid texts belonging to Queen Ankhesenpepi II from the era of the Old Kingdom, pided into 269 pieces.

On his part, Atef Moftah, general supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum project and the surrounding area, said that the artifacts arrived safely amid security from the tourism and antiquities police and will be displayed inside the main exhibition halls of the museum

Assistant Minister of Tourism and Antiquities for Archaeological Affairs at the Grand Egyptian Museum Al-Tayyeb Abba explained that these include a huge granite statue representing Queen Hatshepsut in a kneeling position, in addition to a large limestone plaque engraved with the royal titles of King Sneferu.

He added that the artifacts included a distinctive panel of King Akhenaten and Queen Nefertiti, three large-sized panels with high-relief from the tomb of Rahotep from the era of the Old Kingdom, and two pink granite panels of a door with an inscription depicting King Ramses II in the Osiris position wearing the red crown.

Before wrapping and packing, a team of restorers carried out archaeological documentation of the pieces and prepared a report on each piece, under the supervision of the Grand Egyptian Museum and the Supreme Council of Antiquities, the Director-General of Executive Affairs for the Restoration and Transfer of Antiquities at the Grand Egyptian Museum Eissa Zidan said.

The heavy artifacts are now being restored and maintained, in preparation for its transfer to the main exhibition halls, Zidan added.
