The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs is following up on the circumstances of the shooting incident in Mexico that resulted in the death of a number of Egyptian citizens.
Tamim Khalif, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Badr Abdel Aaty, Minister of Foreign Affairs directed the consular sector at the ministry and the Egyptian embassy in Mexico to closely follow up on the incident and communicate with the Mexican authorities to determine the circumstances of the incident.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration extended its sincere condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, praying to God Almighty to have mercy on them and inspire their families with patience and solace.
Earlier, Claudia Sheinbaum, President of Mexico announced the opening of an investigation into an incident that led to the death of 6 migrants, including an Egyptian national, after Mexican army soldiers opened fire on a bus carrying them.
Sheinbaum confirmed in the conference, on Thursday, that the six victims belong to Egypt, El Salvador and Peru, without revealing the number of victims from each nationality, describing the incident as "unfortunate" and threatening to hold the wrongdoer accountable.
