Egypt's Foreign Minister, Badr Abdel Aatty, met with a delegation from the Palestinian Fatah movement on Saturday, reaffirming Egypt’s strong support for the Palestinian Authority and its opposition to any plans to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland.
The delegation was led by Mahmoud Al-Aloul, Deputy Chairman of Fatah, alongside Rawhi Fattouh, Chairman of the Palestinian National Council, and Azzam Al-Ahmad, a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) and the Fatah Central Committee.
According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, Abdel Aaty emphasized Egypt’s firm stance against any forced displacement of Palestinians and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to ensuring humanitarian and relief aid reaches the Gaza Strip.
This has been challenging due to Israeli military control over the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and restrictions on the operations of United Nations relief agencies.
Abdel Aatty stressed the importance of maintaining the unity of Palestinian territories and opposing any attempts to separate the West Bank from Gaza. He also highlighted the need for collective international efforts to secure humanitarian access to Gaza and lift the restrictions that hinder the movement of individuals and relief supplies through the Rafah crossing.
During the meeting, the foreign minister outlined Egypt’s ongoing efforts to mediate an end to the war in Gaza and reach a ceasefire agreement. Abdel Aaty emphasized that Egypt remains actively engaged in facilitating the exchange of prisoners and detainees between Israel and Palestinian factions. He also discussed Egypt’s broader diplomatic initiatives aimed at garnering international support for the recognition of the Palestinian state.
