The Deputy Executive Director of the Food Export Council (FEC) Tameem El-Dawy said that the value of Egypt's exports of food industries to Iraq last year amounted to about $125 million.
This came during a symposium organized by the FEC on Tuesday in cooperation with the Commercial Representation Office in Amman and the Export Council for Printing and Packaging under the title "Trade mission for the food industries, printing and packaging sector".
A trade mission will also head to Palestine during the period from May 29-31 with the participation of importers from Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Palestine.
El-Dawy added that Iraq ranks 12th in the list of the biggest importers during 2021, accounting for 3.7% of the sector's total exports.
The Deputy Executive Director added that there are 126 Egyptian food products companies exporting to the Iraqi market, noting that 14 of them exports exceed $1 million.
5 commodities accounted for 81.6% of the sector’s total exports to Iraq
He added that 5 commodities accounted for 81.6% of the sector’s total exports at a value of $102 million, led by the soft drink industry concentrates, which account for 25.6% of the sector’s exports by about $32 million, followed by biscuits and preparations cereals accounting for 17.6% with a value of $22 million, tobacco accounted for 16.8%, with a value of $21 million, and vegetable fats and margarine with a value of $19 million.
Egypt's exports of various food preparations to Iraq amounted to $8 million, cheeses $6 million, and processed and pickled olives $4.3 million.
Chocolate exports from Egypt to Iraq recorded about $3.5 million, frozen vegetables about $4.2 million, exports of vegetable preparations about $1 million, milk and its products about $1.5 million, factory coffee about $800,000, and yeast about $700,000.
Egyptian Exports to Palestine
The Deputy Executive Director announced that the value of Egypt’s food industries exports to Palestine increased by 50% during 2021, to record $151 million compared to $101 million in 2020.
El-Dawy explained that Palestine ranked 8th in the list of the most important importing countries for the Egyptian food industries during the past year, accounting for 3.7% of the sector's total exports.
He said that there are 293 Egyptian food products companies exporting to the Palestinian market, noting that there are 31 companies of them exports exceed $1 million.
10 commodities accounted to 70.7% of the sector’s total exports to Palestine
Out that 10 commodities, which accounted to about 70.7% of the sector’s total exports at a value of $106.7 million, edible oils accounted for 11.9% of the sector’s exports by about $18 million, followed by biscuits and processed grains accounting for 9.9% with a value of $15 million, flour and mill products with a value of $14 million.
Egypt's exports of cheese to Palestine amounted to $11 million, vegetable fats and margarine worth $8 million, processed potato chips with $13 million, fruit juices with $8 million, miscellaneous food preparations about $2.2 million, and prepared animal foods with about $7 million. Egypt Exports of sugar recorded about $6.5 million, dairy and its products stood at $6.2 million.
Chocolate exports from Egypt to Palestine recorded about $6 million, frozen vegetables recorded about $5.5 million, pickled and processed olives totaled about $4.4 million, coffee exports amounted to about $3.7 million, tobacco about $1.7 million, vegetable preparations about $3.4 million. Exports of tomato sauce to Palestine recorded about $2.6 million, soup and broth about $1.5 million, Tahina and sweeteners about $1.3 million, dry sweets about $1.2 million, frozen potatoes about $1.2 million, and jam about $1 million.
