This came of Friday on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Abdel Aaty expressed his aspiration to reach a political settlement to the crisis, and the importance of the sustainable solution being based on the United Nations Charter, the principles of international law, including dialogue and peaceful settlement of disputes, while preserving the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states, in addition to the necessity of dealing with the roots and causes of the crisis and the concerns that led to the staging of such a military confrontation, according to Tamim Khilaf, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Khilaf explained that the minister stressed the importance of concerted international efforts to work on resolving the crisis in light of its continued negative humanitarian, political and economic repercussions at the regional and international levels, and on the peoples and economies of the countries that are parties to the crisis, and other countries of the immediate and regional neighborhood, led by Egypt as the largest net importer of wheat in the world.
He stressed Egypt's commitment to engaging in all sincere efforts to resolve the crisis, including the current initiative, by developing an integrated vision for the role that the initiative can play, and by adopting a gradual approach based on communicating with the Russian and Ukrainian sides to take into account the inclusion of their concerns within the framework of formulating a comprehensive approach to achieving peace.
Abdel Aaty concluded by stressing the importance of avoiding double standards in dealing with international and regional crises regardless of their geographical scope, and applying one measure to all issues, especially with regard to the Palestinian issue and the crisis in Gaza
