Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration, and Expatriates Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, received Park Beom-kye, the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Korea, on Tuesday in Cairo. The meeting marked a new milestone in the effort to deepen the long-standing ties between Egypt and South Korea, particularly in light of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to advancing bilateral cooperation across political, economic, and strategic dimensions. They also emphasized the importance of building on the foundations laid during President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Seoul in 2016 and the South Korean President’s visit to Egypt in 2022, which established the framework for a robust economic partnership.
Abdelatty expressed his hope to convene the Joint Ministerial Committee—to be co-chaired by the two foreign ministers—in the near future. He stressed that the committee would be instrumental in expanding cooperation in new and emerging sectors and in developing a shared vision for industrial localization in Egypt, particularly in high-potential sectors.
The Minister also highlighted the vast investment opportunities available in Egypt, particularly in major national projects such as the New Administrative Capital and the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone).
He underscored Egypt’s ambitions to attract Korean investment in green hydrogen, renewable energy, and clean technologies, and proposed the establishment of a Korean industrial zone within the SCZone. Such a zone would serve as a platform for joint manufacturing and industrial integration, benefiting from Egypt’s legislative and financial incentives and its unique geographic position linking Africa, Europe, and Asia.
