Egypt's Exports to China Jump by 38%

Xiaojun Jing, charge d'affaires of the Chinese embassy in Cairo said earlier this week that Egypt's exports to China grew by 38 percent.

"China has become Egypt's first trading partner, with exports growing 38%," he added.

In 2018, the total volume of trade stood at $13.8 billion, reflecting the expansion of the partnership between the two countries.

President Abdul Fattah al-Sisi, who visited Beijing last April for the sixth time, recommended strategies to deepen the cooperation between the two nation within the framework of the belt and road initiative.

He pointed out that China has affiliated the initiative with the Suez Canal Economic zone (SCzone) projects, serving both countries.

Mineral fuels, oils, distillation products stood as the main export products to China.

While, edible fruits, nuts, peel of citrus fruit, melons amounted to 8.9 percent, and plastics stood at 6.2 percent.

In addition, stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials stood at 4.4 percent of the total value of Egyptian exports to China.

Inorganic chemicals, precious metal compound, and isotope reached 2.7 percent, and the "White Gold" cotton at 1.2 percent.

On the other hand, Chinese exports to Egypt were mainly electronic equipment, machinery, boilers, manmade filaments, and medical apparatus.
