The Egyptian Central Auditing Organization (CAO) has been elected as the legal and financial auditor of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for a six-year term, the first time in the organization's history. The CAO beat out bids from major countries such as the United Kingdom and the Philippines.
In a statement issued today, Friday, the CAO confirmed that this achievement is the culmination of intensive efforts that began in August 2024, following the agency's decision to run for the position after it became vacant.
The CAO added in the statement that the Egyptian bid was carefully prepared in accordance with the highest international standards in auditing and accounting, focusing on six main pillars, including independence, audit methodology, member qualifications, training and experience, reporting, and audit costs.
Mohamed El-Faisal Youssef, Chairman of the Authority stated that winning this position reflects global confidence in its advanced expertise, particularly given its complete independence in accordance with the Egyptian Constitution and law.
He also noted the technical capabilities of its members, who possess extensive local and international experience and have participated in auditing numerous international organizations, such as the United Nations Tourism Organization (UNTO), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Presidency of the Board of Auditors, the African Union and its various institutions, and the audit of COMESA.
The Chairman also noted the Authority's strict adherence to international standards in external auditing of international organizations and its reliance on a risk-based audit approach to ensure maximum benefit to the organization.
