Badr Abdel Atty, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, received Ali Youssef Ahmed Al-Sharif, the new Sudanese Foreign Minister, in his first official meeting since assuming office.
The meeting underscored the unique and historical relations between Egypt and Sudan and the strong bonds that unite the Egyptian and Sudanese people.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Abdel Atty congratulated his Sudanese counterpart on his appointment and on the confidence he has earned from the Sudanese Sovereign Council.
Abdel Atty reaffirmed Egypt’s steadfast support for Sudan in this critical period, emphasizing the support for Sudan’s national institutions, respect for Sudanese sovereignty, and commitment to the unity and integrity of its territory, while rejecting any interference in its internal affairs.
Moreover, FM assured that Egypt will continue to stand by Sudan and its people during this challenging and historic turning point.
He also highlighted Egypt’s commitment to providing comprehensive support to Sudan on both political and humanitarian fronts. Abdel Atty also noted the successful visit of the African Union Peace and Security Council to Port Sudan in early October 2024, which took place during Egypt's presidency of the council.
On the humanitarian level, Abdel Atty stressed Egypt's dedication to providing care to the Sudanese who have sought refuge in Egypt in large numbers since the onset of the crisis in Sudan, amidst deteriorating humanitarian conditions.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson added that the meeting between the Egyptian and Sudanese foreign ministers demonstrated complete alignment in their positions on the issue of water security.
Both ministers affirmed that achieving water security is an existential issue for both countries that cannot be compromised.
