On Thursday Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt's Minister of Youth and Sports, met with Ms. Bouchra Hajij, President of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB), to discuss the future of volleyball on the continent. The meeting, which took place today, also saw the presence of Yasser Qamar, President of the Egyptian Volleyball Federation.

Minister Sobhi extended a warm welcome to President Hajij, reaffirming Egypt’s robust support for the CAVB under her leadership. Highlighting the rapid growth of volleyball across Africa, Minister Sobhi remarked on the continent's expanding pool of talent at various levels including men's, women's, and junior categories. He also noted Egypt's significant advancements in sports facilities and infrastructure, which have been pivotal in hosting major international sporting events. According to Sobhi, these developments are a direct result of substantial backing from the nation's political leaders.

During the meeting, Sobhi showcased Egypt's state-of-the-art gymnasiums, which are equipped to accommodate at least 2,000 fans, underscoring the country's readiness to host more high-profile competitions.

President Hajij expressed her gratitude for the hospitality shown during her visit and shared her vision for elevating African volleyball to standards comparable with other leading continents and countries proficient in the sport. She emphasized collaborative efforts to enhance the sport's profile across Africa.

Further enriching her visit, Minister Sobhi invited Hajij to tour Egypt’s new administrative capital, home to the Olympic Games' first and largest Egyptian Olympic city, a project that stands as a testament to Egypt's dedication to sports excellence.

Adding to the agenda, Hajij invited the Egyptian Sports Minister to attend the upcoming African Beach Volleyball Championship in Tetouan, Morocco, this June. This event will serve as a qualifier for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
