Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriates' Affairs Badr Abdelatty underscored Cairo’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing ties with Bosnia and Herzegovina across a wide range of sectors, during talks held Friday with Bosnian Foreign Minister Elmedin Konaković on the sidelines of the Union for the Mediterranean Ministerial Meeting in Barcelona.
Abdelatty welcomed his Bosnian counterpart’s visit to Egypt and emphasized the importance of launching a political consultation mechanism between the two foreign ministries. He also highlighted the potential for expanded cooperation in diplomatic training, an area both sides expressed readiness to advance.
The Egyptian foreign minister stressed the need to invigorate economic and commercial relations, calling for stronger coordination between the two countries’ chambers of commerce.
He reiterated Egypt’s support for establishing a joint business council to explore investment and trade prospects, particularly in renewable energy, transport, tourism, agriculture, and education.
Abdelatty outlined the “significant opportunities” available in the Egyptian economy, especially in light of incentives offered to foreign investors in priority sectors. He also underscored Egypt’s strategic geographic position, which enables access to European, African, and Asian markets, along with the country’s capacity to provide well-trained, highly skilled labor.
The ministers also discussed the rising volume of tourism between the two countries. Abdelatty pointed to the importance of implementing the Memorandum of Understanding on Joint Tourism Promotion, signed in August 2025, and called for the launch of direct flights between Cairo and Sarajevo to further stimulate travel in both directions.
The meeting included an exchange of views on key regional and international issues, with a particular focus on developments in the Gaza Strip. Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the latest UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and advancing the second phase of U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace plan.
He also underlined the need to enable the International Stabilization Force to carry out its mandate in order to reinforce the ceasefire. The Egyptian minister briefed his counterpart on ongoing preparations for the International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza.
