Egypt’s airports recorded a strong rebound in air traffic in 2025, welcoming nearly 28 million passengers over the course of the year, as tourism demand surged and operational efficiency across the country’s aviation sector improved markedly.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, passenger traffic rose by more than 22%, while the number of flights increased by over 20%, reflecting what officials described as an unprecedented improvement in airport operations nationwide.
The ministry said the results were based on continuous monitoring of operational performance indicators at Egyptian airports, drawing on official aviation data and tourism traffic statistics to and from the country’s key tourist destinations.
Airports operated by the Egyptian Airports Company delivered particularly strong performance, with improved punctuality, smoother operations, and enhanced efficiency across the civil aviation system. Officials noted that these gains were the result of sustained efforts to modernize infrastructure and streamline airport management.
Passenger numbers reached approximately 28 million arrivals and departures in 2025, compared with 22.9 million in 2024, representing a 22.3% year-on-year increase. The total number of flights climbed to around 209,800, up from 173,800 the previous year, a growth rate of 20.7%.
The surge in traffic was largely driven by a sharp rise in international travel to Egypt, particularly to airports serving major tourist cities. Winter tourism, along with Christmas and New Year holiday travel, played a key role in boosting passenger volumes, as Egypt continued to attract visitors seeking its diverse cultural, historical, and coastal destinations.
The aviation sector also witnessed heightened activity at Cairo International Airport and Sphinx International Airport, coinciding with major national events, including the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum, which drew increased international attention.
In response to the growing traffic, Egypt’s civil aviation authorities emphasized that round-the-clock operational monitoring remains in place to ensure the highest standards of safety and security. Efforts have also focused on maintaining smooth passenger flows, reducing waiting times, and accelerating travel procedures during peak periods.
Officials said these measures are critical to sustaining growth, enhancing the passenger experience, and reinforcing Egypt’s position as a leading regional aviation and tourism hub.
With traffic levels reaching new highs in 2025, the strong performance of Egyptian airports signals renewed momentum for the country’s tourism and transport sectors, momentum authorities aim to build on in the years ahead.
