Mohamed Abbas Helmy, Minister of Civil Aviation, and Gareth Bailey, the British Ambassador to Cairo witnessed Saturday the launching ceremony of EgyptAir's first flight from Cairo International Airport to Manchester, United Kingdom, on its Boeing 737-800 aircraft, with 120 passengers on board.
In light of the state's plan to maximize revenues and increase economic growth rates by stimulating air traffic and tourism to Egypt.
In this context, the minister indicated in his speech on this occasion that the restart of an airline between Cairo and Manchester confirms the extension of the distinguished relations of cooperation between Egypt and Britain, explaining that the beginning of EgyptAir flights to London Heathrow Airport was in 1970 and witnessed an increase Notable in the number of trips over the past years.
Abbas added that by operating the Manchester route, the total number of EgyptAir flights to the United Kingdom will become 20 flights per week, with 14 flights to London, 5 flights to Manchester, and a flight from Luxor to Heathrow Airport in London, which gives a special advantage to the company's customers to travel directly between Cairo, London, and Manchester.
On his part, the British ambassador expressed in his speech his pride in this historic celebration, which reflects the bonds of close cooperation between Egypt and the UK, especially in the field of air transport. The new line contributes to enhancing the travel movement and increasing the volume of trade and tourism exchange between Egypt and Britain.
He added that this line is an important step within EgyptAir's continuous efforts to stimulate travel and tourism between the two countries in order to encourage British tourists to visit Egypt, "Mother of the World", and learn about its ancient civilization.
