In a major boost for Egypt’s electronics sector, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated a new manufacturing facility for global smartphone giant OPPO in the city of 10th of Ramadan on Thursday.
The facility will produce smartphones and electronic devices, marking a significant milestone in the country’s push to become a regional hub for electronics production.
Madbouly highlighted that the plant’s opening aligns with the government’s presidential initiative, “Egypt Manufactures Electronics”, aimed at transforming the electronics industry into a key driver of economic growth. The initiative also seeks to enhance exports, reduce imports, create quality jobs, and attract both domestic and foreign investment.
“The initiative has already delivered tangible results,” Madbouly said. “We have seen an increase in skilled personnel in electronics design, the establishment of local companies, and the creation of factories producing mobile phones, tablets, and fiber-optic cables for the first time in Egypt.”
Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Amr Talaat, added that the new plant will generate 2,000 job opportunities. He emphasized that the project reflects strong collaboration between the government and the private sector. To date, Egypt has successfully attracted 15 global electronics brands, bringing total investments to $200 million, with an annual production capacity of 20 million units.
The OPPO plant spans 24,000 square meters and currently houses 17 production lines, set to expand to 20 lines by the first quarter of 2026. This expansion will enable the facility to produce 500,000 units per month, equivalent to approximately five million devices annually, with over 42% of the value added locally.
OPPO Middle East and North Africa President, Lai Ren, said the facility is already operational, producing and supplying smartphones to the Egyptian market, including popular models such as the Reno12, Reno13, Reno14, A5 Pro, and A6 Pro.
Looking ahead, OPPO plans to export products to other Arab markets by the end of next year. The company also intends to establish new production lines for wearable devices, including smartwatches, fitness bands, and wireless earbuds.
The inauguration of the OPPO plant underscores Egypt’s growing ambition to become a major hub for electronics manufacturing, leveraging strategic investments and initiatives to strengthen its industrial capabilities and global competitiveness.
